Maurisa is a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and a highly experienced federal Indian law practitioner. She has focused her career on tribal federal recognition, lands claims issues, and fee-to-trust acquistions. Maurisa has assisted clients in advocating before federal agencies and Congress.
Prior to joining Patterson Earnhart Real Bird & Wilson LLP, Maurisa worked as an associate in Native American law and public policy practices. She represented tribal clients on various matters, including gaming, natural resources, and economic development. Maurisa also has considerable experience with the legislative process governing tribal recognition.
Maurisa received her J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law. She also earned her Indigenous Law Certificate and two Jurisprudence Awards in the studies of Federal Jurisdiction and Federal Law & Indian Tribes. During law school, she interned at the National Indian Gaming Commission, Office of General Counsel, and the Department of Justice, Office of Tribal Justice.
