The U.S. Department of Treasury requests final comments on the $2 billion Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Fund. According to the statute, $250 million will be allocated to Tribes in 2022 and 2023. The funds may be used for any governmental purpose, except lobbying activities.
Earlier this month, Treasury hosted consultation sessions with Tribes to consider factors when determining the distribution methodology and proper use of funds. Treasury is asking for feedback regarding data to measure economic conditions, equitable factors and data, and the criteria for “governmental purpose.”
The Dear Tribal Leaders letter available here provides further details. Tribes should send comments to tribal.consult@treasury.gov by February 28, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. AKST.
