Gabriel is an associate at Patterson Real Bird & Rasmussen LLP, where his practice areas encompass Federal Indian Law, Child Welfare, Litigation and Appeals, Energy and Natural Resources Law, and General Counsel Services. Before joining Patterson Real Bird & Rasmussen LLP, Gabriel began his legal career as a Staff Attorney for the Three Affiliated Tribes on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation, where he promoted Tribal sovereignty and safeguarded Tribal interests. In this capacity, Gabriel provided legal counsel and representation to Tribal entities on a wide range of matters, including litigation and appeals, business transactions, housing, education, finance, healthcare, and government and administrative affairs. He also represented Tribal Child Protection Services (CPS), Tribal Child and Family Services (CFS), and assisted in Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) cases, ensuring the protection and welfare of Native children and families.
Gabriel later served as a Prosecutor in the State of New Mexico, where he handled a broad spectrum of felony and misdemeanor cases, with a particular focus on juvenile and white-collar crime prosecution across Eddy, Lea, and Chaves Counties. In his most recent role, Gabriel worked at a law firm, where he represented state entities, government agencies, and private clients in areas such as municipal liability, general tort liability, civil rights litigation, oil and gas litigation, title examination, and probate and estate planning.
Gabriel holds a J.D. from the University of North Dakota, where he also earned a Certificate in Indian Law. While in law school, he worked as a Law Clerk for the Tribal Judicial Institute and as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Spirit Lake Nation.
Originally from Hollywood, Florida, Gabriel enjoys powerlifting, hiking, and both fiction and non-fiction reading in his personal time. He also places great value on spending quality time with family and friends and embraces all the diverse experiences life has to offer.
