JR is an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation.  JR works in all areas of law that come before tribal governments.  He has experience in tribal employment matters including the development of personnel policies.  He also has experience advancing tribal financial projects.  He has worked with national investment and banking institutions to further tribal economic development.

Working with tribal family services, JR has litigated in tribal and state court for the protection of tribal members and the fulfillment of tribal codes and agreements. Through his cases, he has sought enforcement of tribal legislative and judicial intent and worked to protect and expand tribal jurisdiction.

Prior to joining the firm, JR clerked and interned for a number of organizations during law school, including Oklahoma Indian Legal Services and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

JR is inspired by the many individuals who support tribal communities and ensure that tribal voices are heard. The dedication of these individuals — including his coworkers and the tribal leaders the firm represents — encourage JR to do all he can to address the challenges that tribes and their members face.

JR Loera was raised in Lawton, Oklahoma. He is married to Kaeli Loera, who has a master’s degree in social work. He enjoys anything related to sports, and reading about both history and economics.
