Spirit is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Húŋkpapȟa), born and raised on the reservation in Fort Yates, North Dakota. She is a descendent of the Mdewakanton and Yankton Sioux Tribes. 

Spirit has a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in Policy Analysis from the University of North Dakota and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Dakota. Spirit has eight years of legal experience, seven of those years working as a paralegal for her Tribal Nation where she assisted in providing comprehensive legal services. With an understanding of the unique legal challenges faced by Native American Tribes, Spirit brings a passion for justice, a profound respect for Tribal sovereignty and governance, and a commitment to advocacy. 

Spirit relocated to the Denver metro area in 2023 with her wife, Rebecca, who is an Indian Child Welfare Program Director. Outside of her professional duties, Spirit enjoys spending time with family, exploring the world of culinary arts, and is an avid reader of historical nonfiction, autobiographies, biographies, and memoirs.
